Campus Transportation Analysis

This transportation study analyzed the rate of carpooling on the Ithaca College campus. A direct observation survey was conducted by counting the number of single occupancy and multiple occupancy vehicles driving onto campus at each entrance. The study distinguished between faculty/staff, student, and guest vehicles in order to identify differences in the number of carpoolers and total vehicles between each groups. The results indicated that 82% of vehicles entering campus were single occupancy, containing only the driver with no passengers.

A summary report that included many recommendations for increasing carpooling and public transportation use was presented to college administrators resulting in policy changes to promote bus ridership.
