Landlord and Tenant Energy Efficiency Program Evaluation

This project evaluated energy efficiency incentive programs and marketing strategies related to residential rental properties on behalf of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Southern Tier Energy Smart Communities program. Interviews were conducted with landlords and tenants to get their perspectives on energy efficiency programs targeted toward residential rental properties.

The results suggested that both landlords and tenants would be willing to invest in energy efficiency if better incentives existed and if educational outreach strategies related to energy conservation were enhanced. The project report identified areas for improving current New York State incentive programs and marketing strategies targeted toward the residential rental property sector.
